What are Growth Groups?
A Growth Group is a small gathering of people who commit to meet together regularly to study the Word and apply it to our lives. The purpose is in the name — we gather as a group in order to grow closer to Christ together. We share meals together, pray for one another, learn to bear one another’s burdens, and spend time studying the Word of God together. And we seek to live out community in the body of Christ together as we build deep relationships with one another.
Is there a cost involved?
At times there may be a workbook to purchase, depending on the study the group is going through, but for the most part the only cost of joining a group is that of commitment. When you join a Growth Group, you’re promising to attend and be prepared each week. It’s this commitment that makes Growth Groups work.
How do I get started, and what group should I be in?
To get connected to a group, simply reach out to the group leaders — current group information is listed on the back panel of the bulletin each week.
What does a typical gathering look like?
Each group will gather weekly, at a day and time decided by the group. Most gatherings will last a couple hours, and will include refreshments, prayer, fellowship, and a time study in God’s Word. Growth Groups will also, periodically, share meals together, have (spontaneous?) game nights, and look for opportunities to serve the community through service / outreach projects.
I hope this has helped to answer some of the questions you may have about Growth Groups. If you have any questions or comments, or want to know how you can get involved in a group right now, please don’t hesitate to give Pastor Mark a call!
